What makes a UGC ad actually work?

A UGC ad works when it doesn't look like an ad. All 25 below are creator-style videos from 25 different brands, selling everything from lip stain to sofas and mattresses. The ones that scale share a structure: a format people already watch (a routine, a haul, an honest review), a first line that sounds like a person talking, and one moment where the product proves itself on camera.

01

Use a format people already watch

Routines (Paula's Choice, Dermalogica, Kosas), hauls (Everlane, Oner Active) and unboxings (IPSY, Hello Molly) are formats viewers look for on their own. The ad borrows attention the format already has.

02

Make the first line sound like a person

“I’ve hated every single bonnet I’ve ever tried” (Curlfriend Collective), “Four months in… here is the honest update” (Elavate), “she was not lying…” (Huda Beauty). None of these read like brand copy, so they don't get skipped as ads.

03

Prove it on camera

Huda Beauty's creator eats a burger in lip stain, Murad's shows the same arms after two years and Saie's shows her shade on real skin. A test you can watch beats a claim you have to trust.

04

Answer the question a product page can't

Joybird lets you touch the fabric, Breville says you don't need to be a coffee expert and Oner Active tells you which size she wears. Creators answer the doubts that stop people from buying.

None of this is unique to any one brand — it's a pattern across every ad below. Use the "why it works" note under each example to spot which lever a given brand is pulling, and borrow the tactic rather than the execution.

UGC ad do's and don'ts

Do

  • Open with a line a real person would say out loud
  • Pick one familiar format: routine, haul, review or reaction
  • Show the product working, not just held up to the camera
  • Put sizes, shades and product names in the caption
  • Brief creators on the objection to answer, not a script to read

Don't

  • Don't rewrite creators into brand-speak
  • Don't open on a logo or a price card
  • Don't hide that it's a paid partnership — label it #ad
  • Don't use one creator for every audience
  • Don't cut the moment where the product proves itself

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a UGC ad?

An ad made from user-generated-style content: a real person, usually a paid creator or a customer, filming the product in their own words, often on a phone. On Meta it can run from the brand's page or as a partnership ad. All 25 ads on this page are creator-style videos.

What makes a UGC ad convert?

A familiar format, a human first line and proof on camera. The strongest UGC ads here use a routine or haul viewers already watch (Paula's Choice, Everlane), open with a line a person would say (Curlfriend Collective, Elavate) and show the product working (Huda Beauty, Murad, Saie).

What are the best UGC ad formats?

In this file: routines and day-in-the-life videos (4 ads), hauls and unboxings (4), honest reviews (3), objection answers (3), stories and POVs (3), styling (2), reactions (2), proof tests (2), one celebrity partnership and one recurring creator series. Pick the format that fits the question your buyer is asking.

Are UGC ads made by real customers?

Often they're made by paid creators. Several ads here carry partner tags such as #paulaschoicepartner, #everlanepartner and #TuftAndNeedlePartner. Real customer videos work too, but a paid creator gives the brand a brief, usage rights and more control over the result.

Do UGC ads work for expensive products?

Yes. Tuft & Needle and Saatva (mattresses), Joybird (sofas) and Breville (espresso machines) all run creator ads. For a big purchase, a real person in a real home answers “will this work for me?” better than a studio shot.

Where do these ads come from?

Meta's public Ad Library — the same tool anyone can use to search active Facebook and Instagram ads. Every ad here was running when we captured it, and each card links to that brand's live ads in the Ad Library so you can verify it yourself.

How do you pick which ads to include?

Brand-first. We search brands that sell their own products, keep only creator-style videos that were running when we checked, skip catalog ads with no written hook and keep one ad per brand. No brand on this page is repeated anywhere else in the library.

How often is this page updated?

Quarterly, with any ad that has stopped running replaced on the refresh.

Can I request my brand's ad be removed or credited differently?

Yes — contact us and we'll update or remove it. This page is an independent editorial showcase and isn't sponsored by or affiliated with any brand shown.
