What makes a tech ad actually work?

Electronics buyers compare before they buy, so a tech ad is rarely the last thing they see — it's the thing that gets the product onto the shortlist. The brands spending the most on Meta do that in one of three ways: a single spec that sounds impossible (53 grams, 660 hours of battery, 120Gbps), a feeling the spec sheet can't capture (Sonos, Ray-Ban Meta), or a real person using the product somewhere the buyer recognises (a dinner party, a desk setup, a game day). Very few of these 25 ads list features for the sake of it.

01

One number beats a spec sheet

Keychron leads with 8000 Hz and 660 hours, Insta360 with 53 grams and Satechi with 120Gbps. Each ad picks the one figure that sounds remarkable and lets it carry the whole claim, instead of listing ten features nobody remembers.

02

Sell the feeling when the category is crowded

Sonos (“Speakers make sound. Sonos makes you feel.”) and Ray-Ban Meta (“always just an ask away”) skip specs entirely. When every competitor claims great sound, the brand that owns an emotion stands out.

03

Show it in a real setup

Bose shows a dinner party, DJI a creator's rig, JBL a musician jamming over AI-separated stems and OtterBox an unboxing. Seeing the product in use answers “what would I actually do with it?” faster than a render.

04

Borrow an audience you already trust

Logitech G borrows McLaren, UGREEN the Patriots and Sennheiser a touring artist. A partner whose fans overlap with yours transfers credibility a new gadget can't build on its own.

None of this is unique to any one brand — it's a pattern across every ad below. Use the "why it works" note under each example to spot which lever a given brand is pulling, and borrow the tactic rather than the execution.

Consumer Electronics ad do's and don'ts

Do

  • Pick the one spec that sounds remarkable and lead with it
  • Show the product inside a setup or moment the buyer recognises
  • Use creators who genuinely use the gear on camera
  • Name the switching cost or setup worry and remove it
  • Match the creative to the buyer: gamer, creator, commuter or traveller

Don't

  • Don't list every feature — nobody reads past the second
  • Don't use a floating product render as your only creative
  • Don't hide compatibility (iPhone, Mac, Matter) in the small print
  • Don't lead cold audiences with a discount on an unknown brand
  • Don't run the same ad for a launch and a clearance

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a consumer electronics ad convert?

A reason to shortlist the product in the first few seconds. The strongest tech ads in this file either lead with one remarkable spec, sell a feeling the spec sheet can't, or show the product being used in a setup the buyer recognises — rather than listing every feature.

Should tech ads lead with specs or lifestyle?

It depends on the buyer. Enthusiast categories like keyboards, cameras and gaming gear (Keychron, Insta360, Satechi, Razer) lead with a hard number because those buyers compare specs. Mainstream categories like speakers and smart glasses (Sonos, Ray-Ban Meta) lead with the feeling, because the specs all sound the same.

Do creator ads work for electronics?

Yes, when the creator actually uses the gear on camera. Bose's dinner-party host, JBL's musician demoing AI stem separation and DJI's creator rig all show the product doing its job, which answers the “would I use this?” question better than a studio shot.

Are partnerships worth it for tech brands?

When the partner's audience overlaps with yours. Logitech G's McLaren edition, UGREEN's Patriots tie-in and Sennheiser's touring-artist story all borrow credibility from a name the target buyer already follows.

Video or static for tech ads?

Static works for a single striking claim or offer (Twelve South's 5 million users, Skullcandy's free-shipping offer, Keychron's numbers). Video earns its place when the product needs to be shown working — unboxing, setup, or a feature that's hard to describe in words.

Where do these ads come from?

Meta's public Ad Library — the same tool anyone can use to search active Facebook and Instagram ads. Every ad here was running when we captured it, and each card links to that brand's live ads in the Ad Library so you can verify it yourself.

How do you pick which ads to include?

Brand-first, not keyword-first. Electronics keywords return a lot of resellers, marketplaces and unrelated pages, so we search brands that make their own products, use Meta's impression-ranked sort, skip anything flagged as low-impression and keep one ad per brand.

How often is this page updated?

Monthly, with any ad that has stopped running replaced on the refresh.

Can I request my brand's ad be removed or credited differently?

Yes — contact us and we'll update or remove it. This page is an independent editorial showcase and isn't sponsored by or affiliated with any brand shown.
