What makes a luxury ad actually work?

Luxury advertising breaks most of the rules in the other swipe files on this site. Across these 25 ads there is not a single percentage-off discount, almost no product specs and very little copy. What they do instead is borrow status (an ambassador, a publisher, a creator), prove craft (materials, savoir-faire, “handcrafted”), or sell the idea that the purchase will last or hold its value. The entry product matters too: several houses advertise fragrance on Meta, because it's the most affordable way into the brand.

01

Never discount the brand

Zero of the 25 ads lead with a percentage off. Even the offers that exist (Byredo's discovery set voucher, Rebag's authentication promise) reduce risk without cutting the price, because a discount would cheapen what the buyer is paying for.

02

Borrow status, don't claim it

Tiffany with Natalie Portman, Louis Vuitton with Ana de Armas, David Yurman with Eiza González, Coach with PinkPantheress. Luxury brands let the right person say “this is desirable” instead of saying it themselves.

03

Craft is the proof point

Dior talks about savoir-faire, Loro Piana about raw materials, Strathberry turns handcrafting into ASMR. In place of a performance claim, luxury proves value by showing how the object was made.

04

Longevity justifies the price

RIMOWA is “a lifetime of lives”, Montblanc is “crafted to last”, Fashionphile calls a handbag “an asset”. Framing the purchase as something that lasts or holds value turns a high price into a sensible one.

None of this is unique to any one brand — it's a pattern across every ad below. Use the "why it works" note under each example to spot which lever a given brand is pulling, and borrow the tactic rather than the execution.

Luxury Goods ad do's and don'ts

Do

  • Let an ambassador, publisher or creator carry the status signal
  • Show materials and making, not features
  • Use fragrance or small leather goods as the entry product
  • Frame the price around longevity or resale value
  • Keep copy short — the image does the persuading

Don't

  • Don't run a percentage-off discount on the core brand
  • Don't overload the creative with product specs or bullet lists
  • Don't use performance-style urgency (“ends tonight”, countdowns)
  • Don't pick a celebrity who doesn't fit the house's world
  • Don't send cold luxury traffic to a busy catalogue page

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a luxury ad effective?

It builds desire without looking like it's trying to sell. The luxury ads in this file borrow status from an ambassador, publisher or creator, prove value through materials and craft, and keep the copy short. None of them lead with a discount.

Do luxury brands run discounts in their ads?

Almost never on the core brand. In this file, zero of 25 ads lead with a percentage off. The offers that do appear, like a fragrance discovery set with a voucher or a resale platform's authentication guarantee, lower the risk of buying without lowering the price.

Why do so many luxury brands advertise fragrance on Facebook and Instagram?

Fragrance is the most accessible way into a luxury house, so it suits a broad paid-social audience. It lets the brand reach new buyers at a lower price point without discounting its fashion or leather goods.

Do celebrity ambassadors still work for luxury advertising?

When the person fits the house's world, yes. The ambassadors in this file are used for a single idea each — strength, a colourful collection, a signature design — rather than as generic famous faces.

How do luxury resale brands advertise differently?

They sell trust and value instead of newness. Rebag leads with every item being inspected and verified, and Fashionphile frames a handbag as an asset. The risk they have to remove is authenticity, so that's what the creative addresses.

Where do these ads come from?

Meta's public Ad Library — the same tool anyone can use to search active Facebook and Instagram ads. Every ad here was running when we captured it, and each card links to that brand's live ads in the Ad Library so you can verify it yourself.

How do you pick which ads to include?

Brand-first, not keyword-first. Luxury keywords return a lot of resellers, replicas and marketplaces, so we pull from the houses themselves (plus established resale platforms), use Meta's impression-ranked sort, skip anything flagged as low-impression and keep one ad per brand.

How often is this page updated?

Monthly, with any ad that has stopped running replaced on the refresh.

Can I request my brand's ad be removed or credited differently?

Yes — contact us and we'll update or remove it. This page is an independent editorial showcase and isn't sponsored by or affiliated with any brand shown.
