The Strategy: How to Leverage Whitelisting Ads for Ecommerce

Whitelisting for ecommerce is about partnering with influencers to run ads directly from their accounts. Here’s how it works in a few simple steps:

Identify the Right Influencers

Start by choosing influencers whose audience matches your target—then pitch running ads through their account.

Set Up and Run the Ads

Once content is ready, set up the ad in the influencer’s Ad Manager or boost the post. Use your usual targeting—just now through their account to reach their audience.

Negotiate Terms and Get Access

Once partnered, the influencer grants ad access. You control budget, targeting, and messaging—while the ad runs through their account.

Monitor, Optimize, and Scale

Monitor ROAS, CTR, engagement, and conversions after launching the whitelisted ads. Adjust targeting, budget, and scale for top-performing segments.

Create the Ads with Your Brand's Messaging

Collaborate with the influencer to create content that aligns with your brand but let their personality shine. Ensure the ad feels natural.

Why This Strategy Works

A key driver of performance in whitelisting campaigns is strong ad creative paired with strategic copy. Below are examples and tactics we used to scale ecommerce brands using influencer whitelisting—supported by smart targeting, messaging control, and audience trust.

👉 Authenticity: Running ads from an influencer’s account helps the ad feel like a natural recommendation rather than a hard sell, making it more likely that followers will engage and purchase.

👉 Audience Trust: Followers already trust the influencer, so they’re more likely to trust the ad as well. This means you get access to a highly engaged and loyal audience that may not respond as well to ads from a brand’s own page.

👉 Improved Engagement and Conversions: Whitelisted ads are more integrated into the influencer’s feed and storytelling, which often results in better engagement rates and higher conversions compared to traditional ads.

👉 Control and Customization: Despite the influencer running the ad, you still control the messaging, creative, and targeting. This flexibility ensures your brand’s objectives are met while tapping into the influencer’s reach.

A specialist showcasing your product boosts credibility and trust, making it more appealing.

Creative Types Used

Creative is a powerful tool for improving performance. In this whitelisting case study, we emphasize a consistent creative process with feedback loops to boost key metrics like ROAS, CTR, Share ratio, CPC, and CPM.

Here are the creative styles we produce and test to drive results:

  • Product Showcase: Elevated shots highlighting key features.

  • Lifestyle: Styled photoshoots with overlays for relatable context.

  • Press Releases: Featuring products in media outlets (e.g., “as seen in xxx”).

  • Whitelisting: Leveraging influencers/customers to amplify reach and build trust.

  • Giveaways: Engaging campaigns to increase interaction.

  • Features & Benefits: Overlays and callouts to highlight product advantages.

  • How-To / Unboxing: Step-by-step tutorials demonstrating product functionality.

  • Testimonials & UGC: Authentic reviews and user-generated content.

  • Comparison: Highlighting brand superiority (e.g., “Us vs. Them”)

By combining these creative styles and testing them regularly, we maximize performance, especially with whitelisting efforts.

Targeting & Audience

Audience segmentation and targeting—particularly through Prospecting, Remarketing, and Retention—are crucial for driving profitable campaigns.

Here are the key targeting strategies:

  • Custom Audiences: Based on website engagement.

  • Social Account Engagement Segments: Targeting users who engaged with the brand’s and influencers social profiles.

  • Email/SMS Segments: Retargeting based on customer data from email/SMS lists.

  • Lookalike Audiences: Targeting audiences similar to high-value customers.

  • Geo-Targeting: Refining ads based on specific geographic locations.

  • PMax Ads: Leverage whitelisers content on Youtube via pMax campaigns.

  • 3rd Party Tool Data: Using insights from external tools for deeper audience insights.

By combining these strategies with whitelisting efforts, we were able to optimize audience reach and scale campaigns effectively.

    Offers & Promotions

To improve ROAS, NC-ROAS, and new customer revenue, offers play a crucial role in driving success. The right offers can make or break the cost of traffic, and require creativity, testing, and close monitoring of both primary and secondary KPIs.

Here are a few offers we successfully use to drive growth through whitelisting:

    • Select Product Sales: Featuring specific products with targeted offers to increase conversions.

    • New Product Drops: Creating excitement around new product releases to boost engagement.

    • Limited or Scarce Product Runs: Highlighting exclusive, low-stock items to drive urgency and interest.

    • First Purchase Offers: Offering a discount or incentive on first-time purchases to encourage conversions.

    • BOGO Offers (Buy One, Get One): Engaging customers with value-driven offers to increase average order value.

    • Bundling: Creating attractive product bundles to increase sales volume.

    • Holiday or Seasonal Campaigns: Capitalizing on seasonal events with timely offers.

    • Merchant Center Promotions: Using Google Merchant promotions to incentivize purchases.

    • Ad Extension Promotions: Adding promotions to ad extensions for higher visibility and click-through rates.
