Meta Muse for eCommerce Brands: How to Get Your Products Found and Bought by Meta’s AI Shopping Agent

If you sell on Shopify, you might've missed this: Meta Muse can probably already find your products.

You don't need an ad account, setup, or even an opt-in. The real question is whether the agent understands your products well enough to pick yours over a competitor's. An AI shopping agent doesn't scroll your feed or admire your hero image. It reads.

Here's what Meta Muse is, how it shops, and the exact catalog work that gets your products recommended and bought.

💬 More than 10 million people set up Meta Muse in its first six weeks. Shopping is the number one thing they use it for. More than a quarter of them shop through it, at an average purchase size above $200.

What Is Meta Muse?

Meta Muse is a personal AI agent that Meta launched on September 8, 2026.

It doesn't just answer questions. It does things: books travel, sends emails, fills out forms and buys products for the user.

Each user gets their own cloud computer with its own browser, and Muse keeps working after the app is closed Here's what brands need to know about it.

How Muse is different from Meta AI

Meta AI is the assistant you already see in Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook. It answers questions. Unlike them, Muse acts. It has its own apps and website, handles multi-step tasks and works on its own until the job is done

Muse runs on Muse Spark, Meta's flagship AI model. It's available on iOS, Android, Mac and the web, with WhatsApp and Meta's AI glasses next.

What Muse costs shoppers

Muse is free for most tasks. Power users pay for more usage and access to Meta's most advanced models For your customers, that means no paywall between them and an agent that shops for them.

Why shoppers trust Muse with real money

A separate safety agent, called Sentinel, has to approve anything Muse does before it reaches the internet. Purchases go through Link by Stripe, which creates a one-time card for each order, and Muse is the first AI agent covered by Link's purchase protections, including cover for damaged or lost items and no-fee returns .

The shopper's card details never touch your checkout. That lowers the risk of letting an agent buy for them, which is a big reason purchase sizes are so high.

And people are actually using it. Sensor Tower data shows 30% of US users come back after seven days, compared with a 19% average for ChatGPT, Claude and Grok Meta even had to ask Stripe to raise its limits because of how much shopping was going through the agent.

In plain English: this isn't a demo. It's a new storefront your customers are already walking into.

How Meta Muse Shops (and Which Stores It Can Buy From)

Muse has three ways to check out: Shop Pay for Shopify merchants, Stripe Link for other merchants, and browser automation as a fallback. Which path you get depends on where you sell.

Where you sellCan Muse find you?How Muse checks out
ShopifyYes, by default through Shopify CatalogDirect checkout on Meta, or redirect to your site
WooCommerce, BigCommerce, customBy browsing your site like a shopperStripe Link card or browser automation
AmazonNo: Amazon blocks MuseNone

That last row matters. Amazon has blocked Muse from shopping its site. If you sell on both Amazon and your own store, Muse can only send that sale to your store.

For DTC brands, that's an opening.

Meta Muse for Shopify Brands: Check These Settings First

Shopify added Meta as a channel in Agentic Storefronts on launch day. Your products are shared with Meta through Shopify Catalog by default.

Go to Sales channels → Agentic in your Shopify admin. You'll find two separate switches:

  • Catalog access: whether Muse can see and recommend your products
  • Direct checkout: whether the purchase happens inside Meta, or the shopper is sent to your site to buy

You can keep catalog access on and turn direct checkout off. Shoppers still find you, but they finish on your store.

Three details worth knowing:

  • Direct-checkout orders are attributed to Meta, and you stay the merchant of record.
  • Turning off catalog access doesn't stop Muse from crawling your public pages.
  • GA4 and ad dashboards can undercount agent sales. Filter your Shopify orders by channel to see the real number.

💡 TIP: Before Black Friday, check what a direct-checkout order looks like in Klaviyo. If your post-purchase flows depend on an email or SMS opt-in, confirm one is captured. If it isn't, send shoppers to your site instead.

Not on Shopify? How Meta Muse Shops Your Store

WooCommerce, BigCommerce and custom stores don't get a catalog feed into Muse. Instead, Muse visits your site the way a shopper would: it opens your product page in its own browser, reads it, and checks out with a one-time Link by Stripe card or by filling in your checkout form.

So your store has to work for an agent that behaves like a person. Here's what to check:

  • Bot protection. An agent typing card details into a form can look like the bots your fraud tools are built to stop. If a CAPTCHA, Cloudflare rule or fraud app blocks it, that sale goes to a competitor. Review your blocked and declined checkouts.
  • Guest checkout. Forced account creation adds a step an agent may not complete. Keep guest checkout on.
  • Readable product pages. Price, variants and stock should be in the page text, not only in images or behind a click that loads them.
  • Pop-ups. An email pop-up that covers the product before it loads can stall the agent. Delay it, or switch to exit intent.

✅ Test it yourself. Download Muse, ask it to buy one of your best sellers, and watch where it gets stuck. Then refund the order. It takes ten minutes and shows you exactly what the agent sees.

Shopify brands should run the same test. Catalog access gets you found, but if Muse falls back to browsing your site, these checks still apply.

The Meta Muse Catalog Checklist: Write for an Agent, Not a Thumbnail

On Instagram, a photo does the selling. In Muse, your product data does. The agent matches a shopper's request ("a warm cotton sweater under $120 that ships by Friday") against what your listing actually says.

Here's the cleanup we run:

  1. Make titles stand on their own. "The Juniper" means nothing without the photo. "The Juniper Women's Cotton Knit Sweater" gets matched.
  2. Put the key specs in the description. Material, sizes, dimensions, compatibility and care. If a shopper might ask it, write it down.
  3. Keep price and stock accurate. An agent that hits an out-of-stock variant moves to the next store.
  4. Name variants clearly. "Navy / Large" beats "Option 2".
  5. Make shipping and returns easy to find. Agents compare delivery dates and return windows, and so do shoppers.
  6. Keep high-quality images. They still feed Meta's visual tools (more below).

Start with your top 20 best sellers. That's where agent traffic will land first, so that's where a vague title or missing spec costs you the most.

If this sounds familiar, it should. It's the same playbook as getting your Shopify store into ChatGPT Shopping.

Clean product data now wins on every AI shopping surface at once, and we break down how they compare in our ChatGPT Shopping guide.

Meta Muse Image: Your Catalog in the Shopper's Living Room

Don't confuse Muse with Muse Image, Meta's image model. It powers a room-restyle feature in Meta AI Shopping: a US shopper uploads a photo of their room, and Meta places real products from brands' catalogs into it

It runs on the same product data you already use for Meta ads. Meta says catalog quality directly affects how well these tools perform. For furniture, decor and home brands, your catalog now shows up inside the buyer's actual space.

Muse Image also generates Advantage+ creative variations. So one clean catalog feeds your ads, your AI visuals and the shopping agent.

What We Still Don't Know About Meta Muse

Let's be honest about the gaps:

  • How Muse ranks products. Meta hasn't said how it picks one store over another.
  • Fees. Zuckerberg says Meta wants to make money from Muse early, but no merchant transaction fee has been announced.
  • Ads. There's no Muse ad unit yet. Meta says Muse conversations aren't shared with its ad systems, though shopping activity could indirectly shape the ads people see
  • Trust. Meta paused Muse's chat-sharing feature after researchers found roughly 6,800 exposed share links. Shopper trust is still being earned.

Our take: Treat Muse like a new organic channel, not an ad product. You can't buy your way in yet, so the brands with the cleanest catalogs win by default. That work also pays off in ChatGPT Shopping and Google AI Mode. Do it once, and do it before BFCM.
