Meta Ads Super Burst: What It Is, How It Works & When eCommerce Brands Should Use It

What if you could own Facebook and Instagram for a few hours and lock your competitors out while you do it?

That's the pitch behind Meta Ads Super Burst, announced on October 15, 2026 at Meta's Brand Building Summit. It lets brands reserve a 3 to 24 hour window of concentrated reach, with optional category exclusivity so no rival in your category can book the same slot.

Here's what Super Burst ads actually are, how they work, realistic examples for eCommerce, and whether your brand should care yet. Let's go.

💥 In Meta's early tests, Super Burst campaigns reached a median of 34 million people per flight and drove a median +2.9-point lift in ad recall. Those are Meta's own numbers: but they explain why every big-budget brand will be asking about it before BFCM.

Here's what Super Burst ads actually are, how they work, realistic examples for eCommerce, and whether your brand should care yet. Let's go.

What Are Meta Ads Super Burst?

Ads Super Burst is a reservation-style ad product on Facebook and Instagram. Instead of bidding in the auction and hoping delivery spreads evenly, you book a short, fixed window and Meta guarantees concentrated delivery inside it.

Meta describes the goal as reaching your audience "at TV-like scale" inside that window. Think of it as the social version of buying a Super Bowl spot, except you choose the hours.

Three features make it different from a normal Meta campaign:

  • Short, fixed windows: 3–24 hours, booked in advance
  • Guaranteed delivery: reservation buying, not auction bidding
  • Optional category exclusivity: competitors in your category can't book the same window

You plan it in Meta's Reach Planner, which estimates reach and price for the dates you pick before you commit.

How Super Burst Ads Work (Step by Step)

Meta hasn't published a full help-center walkthrough yet, so here's the flow based on what Meta and early coverage have confirmed:

  1. Pick your moment. A launch, a sale start time, a cultural event. Super Burst is built for timing-driven moments, not always-on spend.
  2. Model it in Reach Planner. Enter your dates, audience and window length to see estimated reach and cost.
  3. Decide on category exclusivity. It's optional — and likely priced at a premium.
  4. Reserve the window. Inventory is booked ahead, so peak dates (Black Friday, Cyber Monday) will go first.
  5. Run creative built for the burst. Your ads hit a huge audience in a few hours. Weak creative gets exposed fast.
  6. Measure lift, not just ROAS. Meta reports results in recall and intent lift. Plan your own read on sales (more on that below).

💡 TIP: Super Burst is a reach product. That means your cost behaves like a CPM buy. Before you talk to Meta, model what different CPMs would mean for your budget with our free CPM Calculator.

If you're running Advantage+ Shopping campaigns today, Super Burst does not replace them. It sits on top, as a spike of awareness that your always-on campaigns can then harvest.

Meta Super Burst Examples: How eCommerce Brands Could Use It

There are no public brand case studies with numbers yet. The one named example comes from Spark Foundry, which ran a 12-hour activation for a client during testing:

"It performed exactly as expected." — Kathryn Quart, VP Planning, Spark Foundry (via PPC Land)

Meta's own suggested use cases are product launches, awards nights and the first weekend of a sports season. Here's how those translate for eCommerce (illustrative scenarios, not client results):

1. The Product Drop

A skincare brand launching a hero SKU books a 6-hour window from 9am ET on launch day. Everyone in-market sees the drop the same morning — that "everyone's talking about it" effect.

2. The Black Friday Doorbuster

An apparel brand reserves the first 12 hours of Black Friday with category exclusivity. No other apparel brand can book that same Super Burst window. Its auction campaigns keep running alongside to catch the clicks.

3. The Cultural Moment

A snack brand times a 3-hour burst around a big game kickoff, with creative built specifically for that moment.

4. The Limited Collab

A fashion brand runs a 24-hour burst for an influencer collab drop, where scarcity and urgency already drive buying.

What Meta Hasn't Told Us Yet (Read This Before You Budget)

Let's be honest about what this means: Super Burst is promising, but a lot is still undisclosed.

As of October 21, 2026:

  • Pricing and minimum spend: not published. Meta positions it as premium.
  • Eligibility and markets: rolling out in phases toward general availability. Not every account will see it.
  • How "category" is defined: unclear — and whether exclusivity blocks only other Super Burst bookings or also auction ads in your category.
  • Access route: some agencies report it's booked through Meta's managed team, not self-serve. Confirm with your rep.
  • The stats: all results (34M reach, +2.9 recall, +0.6 intent) come from Meta's internal testing, with no published methodology.

Also note that Meta's existing reservation buying has historically been limited to awareness and engagement objectives with minimum audience sizes. If Super Burst follows the same rules, you won't be able to run it on a Sales objective.

Our Take: Who Should (and Shouldn't) Use Super Burst

From where we sit, Super Burst is a brand-moment tool for brands that already have demand capture dialed in. It's not a fix for a struggling account.

It's a good fit if you:

  • Have a real, dated moment (launch, drop, BFCM start) worth concentrating budget into
  • Already run healthy always-on prospecting and retargeting to catch the spike
  • Have strong, moment-specific creative ready to go
  • Spend enough on Meta that a premium reservation won't starve your conversion campaigns

Skip it (for now) if you:

  • Are under roughly mid-five-figures a month on Meta
  • Rely on Meta for direct ROAS every single day
  • Don't have a way to measure incrementality

On that last point: Super Burst will make your attribution messy. A big reach spike lifts branded search, direct traffic and email revenue — none of which Meta's dashboard will credit cleanly. Check your attribution window settings and compare a burst day against Shopify revenue and a similar non-burst day. That's the honest read.

Other Formats Meta Announced Alongside Super Burst

Super Burst wasn't the only update. Meta also announced:

  • First Impression Ads: the first ad in someone's Facebook Feed when they open the app — one brand per day, US-only test.
  • Expanded Reels Trending Ads: ads placed right after trending Reels, now with 15 always-on topics (including Home & Garden and Spanish-language). Custom audience exclusions are coming later this year.
  • Aggregated View Time (alpha): a metric that adds up how long someone spends with your brand across a week, instead of per impression.

For most eCommerce brands, Reels Trending Ads is the most accessible of the four today — it's open to all advertisers. Worth testing before you chase a Super Burst reservation.
